Describe the similarities and differences between suprematism and constructivism. There is no prescribed word count; you just need to show that you understand the movements in broad terms.

  • For each of these movements, find examples from their eras, and then two contemporary designs you think are influenced by these styles.
  • Explain, in your own words, how you can see the influence of suprematism and constructivism in these modern-day designs.

The different is:

Supermatism was a style in the period 1915s – 1930s, founded by Kazmir Malevich . This style had key elements of :

  • geometric shapes.
  • the color-alert was very limited.
  • use the shapes in bold and flat ways.
  • a lot of negative space around the shapes.
  • dynamic compositions.
  • emphasize the relation between shapes an colors.

Today you can see suprematism as pixel art , and Tom Chambers is an artist to watch.

Constructism is a style that comes from supermatism, that style got more life to the forms . And got used in real life with a purpose. Got used in war poster with a meaning and later in a wider range from book covers, logos, posters and advertisement.

  • Layouts structured on a grid;
  • Limited colour palettes;
  • Tense diagonals;
  • Sans-serif typography;
  • Repetition of pure geometric forms;
  • Experimentation with photomontage (he was a photographer of note as well);
  • Methods of layering and superimposing of multiple images;
  • Organised space in such a way that it gave words on a page new, energetic power.

So as you can see, constructivism is taken a bit further than suprematism but in use with same shapes, san-serif style and limited color palett.
